Most people know Punjab National Bank as the bank where their parents have held an account for thirty years. Very few think of it as a credit card bank. Because for a long time, PNB's cards were basic RuPay and Visa products with a low reward rate.

That has changed over the last 18 months. PNB runs 20 active retail credit cards. It has a metal card with unlimited lounge access, a UPI card built with Kiwi, a twin Visa-plus-RuPay card with Zaggle, and cards made only for the Indian Army.

Check them all here, including the ones that are free for life, where the rewards actually add up, the new 2026 launches, and the one best-suited for you.

Who is Punjab National Bank, and Where Does It Stand with the RBI?

Punjab National Bank is a public sector bank, founded in Lahore on 19 May 1894 by a group that included Dyal Singh Majithia and Lala Harkishen Lal, with Lala Lajpat Rai closely involved in its early management.

It moved its registered office to New Delhi after Partition in 1947, and its head office now sits in Dwarka, Delhi.

The Government of India nationalised PNB on 19 July 1969 and still holds around 70% of it. It's a scheduled commercial bank listed on the NSE and BSE.

In April 2020, Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India merged into PNB, which made it the second-largest public sector bank in the country after SBI.

PNB has around 10,000 branches and nearly 11,000 ATMs, and roughly 60% of those branches are in semi-urban and rural areas. Every deposit you hold with PNB carries DICGC insurance of up to ₹5 lakh, which is separate from anything to do with your credit card.

PNB issues its cards on Visa and RuPay networks. The book, however, is small for a bank this size. As of August 2026, it had about 10.5 lakh credit cards in circulation, claiming a 0.84% share of the total credit cards in the country.

PNB Kiwi works differently from the rest of the list. Cashback lands in the Kiwi app as "Kiwis", capped at 1% of your credit limit, so a ₹30,000 limit means no more than ₹300 a month. Our Kiwi RuPay credit card review covers how that redemption works.

If you want a lifetime free credit card, Visa Classic and the virtual PNB Kiwi card have no fee and no conditions attached.

The RuPay version adds ITC and Postcard Hotels 2+1 nights and HoteLux membership, which is where its bigger fee goes.

Army officers get their own LUXURA variant with no joining fee, a ₹1,999 annual fee waived at ₹5 lakh of spend, and 3% cashback on CSD purchases, capped at ₹3,000 a cycle.

The PNB Global Platinum, Gold and Classic cards still show up on comparison sites. They’re just older branding of today's Visa Platinum, Gold and Classic cards.

Best Punjab National Bank Credit Cards to Pick

If your salary comes into a PNB account under the OPTIMA or IMPERIAL scheme, check out PNB SALARY RuPay Select. It's free while your salary is credited. The Myntra, BigBasket or Blinkit and Uber or Ola vouchers alone add up to ₹2,400 a year, before you count Swiggy One, an OTT membership and 10 lounge visits.

If you bank with PNB and want lounge access without paying for it, PNB RuPay Platinum can be your first credit card. No joining fee, and the ₹500 annual fee is waived as long as you use the card once a quarter. It offers two domestic lounge visits a quarter and two international visits a year.

If you spend on beauty, cabs and movies: PNB BLISS. The quarterly Nykaa, Uber or Ola and BookMyShow benefits are worth up to ₹3,400 a year if you use every one, against a ₹510 fee that goes away at ₹1 lakh of annual spend.

If you want a free card for daily UPI payments, you can get the virtual PNB Kiwi card. It charges nothing and pays 1.5% back on Scan & Pay.

If you earn well and travel a few times a year: PNB LUXURA Visa Infinite. At ₹1,999 + GST, it's one of the cheapest cards in India to renew with unlimited lounge access and zero forex markup. Plus, you get bonus points on reaching milestones.

If you book trips on EaseMyTrip, check PNB EMT RuPay Platinum. The ₹3,000 welcome voucher pays back the ₹2,000 fee in year one, and spending ₹1 lakh a year keeps it free after that.

If you want one account that handles UPI and foreign websites, PNB Zaggle Twin is best-suited. The ₹499 fee goes away at ₹1.5 lakh of annual spend, and it gives 8 domestic and 2 international lounge visits a year. The reward rate, however, is low at 10 points per ₹300.

Recent Punjab National Bank Credit Card News and Launches

PNB launched the LUXURA metal card on the Visa Infinite network on 31 January 2026, joining the existing RuPay variant. It's the first time PNB has offered a Visa Infinite card. Our write-up on RuPay Ekaa card features covers the RuPay tier the other LUXURA variant sits on.

On 3 February 2026, Tripura Gramin Bank became the first regional rural bank in India to issue a credit card, through a co-branded RuPay card with PNB as its sponsor bank.

In April 2026, PNB partnered with Kiwi to launch the PNB Kiwi RuPay credit card. And on 19 June 2026, PNB and Zaggle launched the co-branded Zaggle Twin cards, a RuPay and Visa pair on one account, available through the zagg.money app.

On 21 August 2026, PNB signed an agreement with the Indian Army to offer two cards: an officers' variant of LUXURA and the new Parakram card for JCOs and Other Ranks. Both pay 3% cashback on CSD spends, and Parakram is issued on both Visa Platinum and RuPay Platinum.

We didn't find any devaluations on PNB credit cards announced in 2026 so far. That's unusual when so many Indian cards were devalued in 2026, though PNB's low base reward rates on its older cards leave little room to cut anyway.

FAQs about Punjab National Bank credit cards

Which PNB credit card is free for life?

PNB Visa Classic and the virtual PNB Kiwi card have no joining or annual fee. PNB Parakram is also free, but available only for Army JCOs and Other Ranks. Then, the two SALARY RuPay cards are free as long as your salary is credited to your PNB account.

Which PNB credit card has the best lounge access?

Both LUXURA variants offer unlimited domestic and international lounge access. Among the lower-tier cards, SALARY RuPay Select and Zaggle Twin give 8 domestic and 2 international visits a year. RuPay Platinum, RuPay Select, Millennial, EMT and both Patanjali cards also offer 2 domestic visits a quarter and 2 international visits a year.

Can I use a PNB credit card on UPI?

Yes. PNB's RuPay credit cards can be linked to UPI apps, including PNB Kiwi, RuPay Platinum, RuPay Select, Millennial and the SALARY cards. PNB Kiwi is the one built for it, paying 1.5% cashback on Scan & Pay. PNB's Visa cards can't be linked to UPI.

Is PNB LUXURA worth getting?

Yes, if you earn ₹1.5 lakh a month or more and travel a few times a year. The Visa Infinite variant renews at ₹1,999 + GST, is waived at ₹6 lakh of spend, and gives unlimited lounge access and zero forex markup, which is rare at that fee. On ₹5 lakh of annual spend with some travel and dining, its rewards come to around ₹10,500 a year.

Which PNB credit card is best for defence personnel?

PNB Parakram if you're a JCO or of Other Rank in the Army, since it's lifetime free and pays 3% on CSD purchases. Army officers get the LUXURA officers' variant, which pays the same 3% on CSD with a higher ₹3,000 cap. Personnel from other forces can look at PNB Rakshak RuPay Platinum or Rakshak RuPay Select.

Do I need a PNB savings account to get a PNB credit card?

You don't need one for every card. PNB Kiwi and PNB Zaggle Twin are applied for digitally through the Kiwi and zagg.money apps. For most other PNB cards, an existing savings or salary account with PNB makes approval much easier.

If you already bank with PNB, you don't need to look far for a decent card, and if you don't, only Kiwi, Zaggle Twin and LUXURA are worth switching banks for. Pick the one that matches how you actually pay, not the one with the longest benefits list.
