HSBC's TravelOne card is one of the few Indian travel cards that lets you move points instantly to airlines like Singapore Airlines, British Airways and Qatar Airways from inside your bank app. The HSBC Travel One credit card benefits bring together travel rewards and premium travel privileges to make every trip more rewarding.

This review covers the reward rate on travel and everyday spends, the 20 transfer partners, lounge access, fees and eligibility. Also including how it compares with Axis Atlas and Scapia.

TL;DR

  • Rewards: 4 reward points per ₹100 on flights, travel aggregators and foreign currency spends; 2 per ₹100 on everything else (no cap on the base rate).
  • Transfers: points move to 15 airlines and 5 hotel programmes, mostly 1:1, instantly in the HSBC India app.
  • Lounges: 6 domestic and 4 international airport lounge visits a year.
  • Fee: ₹4,999 joining and annual, with the annual fee waived on ₹8 lakh a year in spends; 10,000 bonus points above ₹12 lakh.
  • Verdict: good for people who want flexible airline transfers. Axis Atlas earns more on travel, and Scapia is better if you want zero fees and zero forex.

Reward rate: what 4 points per ₹100 is worth

Because points transfer 1:1 to most airlines, 4 RP per ₹100 equals 4 airline miles per ₹100 on travel spends, and 2 miles per ₹100 elsewhere. What a mile is worth depends on how you redeem it. Business-class award seats usually give the most value.

Example: ₹6 lakh a year, with ₹1.5 lakh on travel and forex and ₹4.5 lakh on other spends:

  • Travel: ₹1.5 lakh × 4/100 = 6,000 RP
  • Other: ₹4.5 lakh × 2/100 = 9,000 RP
  • Total: 15,000 RP, or 15,000 miles at 1:1

That's below the ₹8 lakh waiver, though, so you'd have to pay the ₹4,999 fee. Use Monzy's annual fee breakeven calculator to check your own numbers.

⚠️ Watch out: HSBC excludes some categories from points, including fuel, rent, wallets, utilities, jewellery, insurance, education and government spends. Check the MITC before routing bills through this card.

My take:

  • Pick HSBC TravelOne if you value flexible 1:1 transfers to Singapore, Qatar, British Airways and Accor, and you'll spend ₹8 lakh a year to get the fee waived.
  • Pick Axis Atlas if you spend heavily on travel bookings and can use the tier-based lounges. Read our Axis Atlas review.
  • Pick Scapia if you want zero fees and zero forex for trips abroad and you book through the Scapia app. See Scapia Axis Bank card launch and Scapia Federal devaluation.
