MFCentral is the free, official portal run by the two mutual fund registrars, CAMS and KFintech. It shows every mutual fund folio held under your PAN in one place, and it lets you change your nominee, bank details, contact details and more across all of them at once.

If you want a single, reliable record of what you own, and a quick way to fix the paperwork behind it, this is where you start in 2026.

But in September 2025, AMFI told MFCentral to stop sharing investor data directly with fintech apps. It broke automatic portfolio import on more than 100 platforms. The fix takes about five minutes, and it starts on MFCentral.

Let’s walk you through it.

Phase 1 went live on 23 September 2021 with a combined portfolio view and non-financial requests such as address and nominee changes. Financial transactions came in 2023.

In February 2026, Rajesh Krishnamoorthy was named CEO of MFC Technologies. He said the priority is building solid, API-first infrastructure. However, any public API is yet to be launched, so plan on downloading and uploading files by hand for now.

How to register on MFCentral (step by step)

  1. Go to mfcentral.com or install the MFCentral app.
  2. Choose to sign up as an investor and enter your PAN.
  3. Enter the OTP sent to the mobile number linked to your KYC. If the number on your KYC is old, the OTP goes to a SIM you no longer have. Updating KYC takes about 2–5 business days, so do that first.
  4. Set your login credentials and sign in. Your folios should load under your PAN.
Watch out: Users often complain about delayed OTPs, short session timeouts and the site misbehaving on Safari. If a form keeps failing on an iPhone or Mac, try Chrome or the app before assuming something is wrong with your account.

How to download your CAS from MFCentral

A CAS (Consolidated Account Statement) is one document listing every fund, folio, unit balance and transaction under your PAN. It's what trackers, CAs and loan desks usually ask for.

  1. Log in and open the statements or reports section.
  2. Choose Summary (holdings and values) or Detailed (every transaction). Pick Detailed if you want a tracker to work out your returns and capital gains.
  3. Choose the period: the current financial year, the previous financial year, or a custom range of up to 365 days.
  4. Generate and download it.

If you need a full history going back to 2019, you'll have to download one statement per year.

Moneycontrol mutual funds and other trackers: getting your portfolio back

Before September 2025, many apps pulled your folios straight from MFCentral after you approved an OTP. AMFI stopped that over data security worries, saying investors were approving OTPs without understanding what they were sharing. Distributors had also complained that fintechs were poaching their clients.

The workaround is simple:

  1. Download a Detailed CAS from MFCentral, as above.
  2. In Moneycontrol, Value Research or whichever tracker you use, look for the option to import a portfolio from a CAS or statement upload.
  3. Upload the PDF. Repeat every month or quarter so the tracker stays current.

Honestly, the ban isn't all bad. Think about how many apps you've let read your financial data with a single OTP. If that makes you uneasy, our guide on revoking access from spend-analyser apps shows the same clean-up for your cards and bank accounts.

In November 2025, CAMS MD Anuj Kumar said investors would get more control over what MFCentral shares with third parties, so expect consent-based sharing to come back in some form.

Our suggestion: use MFCentral as your source of truth and service desk, and a tracker as your dashboard. Don't try to make one do both jobs. MFCentral is where you fix things. The tracker is where you look at them.

How to change your nominee, bank and KYC details on MFCentral

This is where MFCentral really earns its place. Before it existed, changing your bank account meant a separate request to every fund house. Now one request covers every folio.

  1. Log in and open the service requests section.
  2. Choose the change you need: bank details, contact details (mobile, email), nominee, or your IDCW option. IDCW (Income Distribution cum Capital Withdrawal) is what used to be called the "dividend" option.
  3. Select all the folios the change should apply to.
  4. Verify with an OTP and submit. Track the request status from your dashboard.

It comes in handy especially if you've changed jobs and closed an old salary account, and your redemptions may still be set to go to that account. Also, if you've married or had a child, and your nominee is probably out of date. Neither of these feels urgent until the day it is.

Regular to Direct: the switch that can cost you tax

A Regular plan pays a commission to a distributor out of your returns. A Direct plan doesn't, so its expense ratio is lower.

MFCentral lets you switch from Regular to Direct, but it doesn’t warn you that the switch counts as a redemption plus a fresh purchase. That means it can trigger capital gains tax.

The math: Say you hold ₹10 lakh in a Regular equity fund, bought more than a year ago, with ₹3 lakh of gains. Long-term capital gains on equity funds are tax-free up to ₹1.25 lakh a year, and the rest is taxed at 12.5%.

→ Taxable gain: ₹3 lakh − ₹1.25 lakh = ₹1.75 lakh

→ Tax: ₹1.75 lakh × 12.5% = ₹21,875, plus 4% cess ≈ ₹22,750

Now, assume the Direct plan is cheaper by 0.75 percentage points a year (check your fund's actual figures). On ₹10 lakh, that saves about ₹7,500 a year. You'd earn back the tax in roughly three years.

The smarter approach is to switch in stages. Move enough each financial year to use up the ₹1.25 lakh exemption, and point all new SIPs to Direct plans straight away.

Also watch the holding period: units held for less than a year are taxed as short-term gains at 20%, which makes switching them a poor deal.

Finding forgotten money with MITRA

MFCentral's MITRA tool helps you find inactive or unclaimed mutual fund holdings. An inactive folio is one with no investor-initiated transaction for 10 years that still holds units.

If a parent invested in a fund in the 2000s and nobody in the family remembers which one, MITRA is the first place to look. It's free, and it might turn up money you'd given up on.

Why MFCentral might not show all your funds

  • Demat holdings: units you bought through a broker and hold in demat, along with ETFs and SGBs, don't appear.
  • A different mobile number or PAN mapping: folios opened with old contact details may not link cleanly to your KYC.
  • Joint holdings: you may be able to see them, but transactions are limited to single-holder resident individuals.

SIP inflows are on despite market volatility

In September, the Nifty 50 TRI fell about 6%, and industry AUM dropped roughly 4–5% to about ₹82.64 lakh crore. Still, SIP inflows hit a record ₹32,490 crore across about 10.06 crore SIP accounts, and about 63 lakh new SIPs were registered. Most investors kept going.

If you want hands-off investing with SIPs, check our guide to automating your SIP that saves you the hassle of investing regularly.

Keep going yourself, provided the basics are covered. Maintain an emergency fund, so you don’t have to redeem your funds at the bottom to pay a hospital bill.

So, should you use MFCentral?

Yes, every mutual fund investor should register.

This week: register with your PAN, download a Detailed CAS, check that your nominee and bank details are current on every folio, and upload the CAS to whichever tracker you like.

It has its limits and a clunky website. But no private app can be the official record of what you own, and MFCentral is exactly that.

FAQs about MFCentral

Is MFCentral safe and government-backed?

MFCentral was set up under SEBI's direction in 2021 and is run by MFC Technologies, a joint venture of CAMS and KFintech, the two registrars that keep records for Indian mutual funds. It isn't a government website, but it works from the official registrar records. You log in with your PAN and an OTP sent to your KYC mobile number, and it's free.

How do I download a CAS from MFCentral?

Log in, open the statements section, and choose a Summary or Detailed CAS. You can pick the current financial year, the previous one, or a custom range of up to 365 days. For a longer history, download one statement per year. Choose Detailed if you plan to upload it to a tracker such as Moneycontrol, because it includes every transaction.

Why did my app stop importing my mutual fund portfolio?

In September 2025, AMFI told MFCentral to stop sharing investor data directly with fintech apps, citing data security and investors approving OTPs without understanding them. That broke automatic import on many platforms. The workaround is to download a Detailed CAS from MFCentral and upload it to your tracker by hand, ideally every month or quarter.

Does switching from Regular to Direct on MFCentral attract tax?

Yes. The switch counts as a redemption from the Regular plan plus a new purchase in the Direct plan, so capital gains tax can apply, and MFCentral doesn't warn you. Long-term equity gains above ₹1.25 lakh a year are taxed at 12.5%, and short-term gains at 20%. Spreading the switch across financial years keeps the tax down.

Why doesn't MFCentral show all my mutual funds?

The most common reason is that the units are held in demat through a broker, and those don't appear. ETFs and SGBs are excluded too. Folios opened with an old mobile number or different contact details may also not link properly to your KYC. Joint holdings can be viewed, but transactions are limited to single-holder resident individuals.

How can I find unclaimed mutual fund money?

Use the MITRA tool on MFCentral. It helps you find inactive or unclaimed folios, meaning folios with no investor-initiated transaction for 10 years that still hold units. It's useful when a parent or relative invested years ago and nobody remembers the fund house. Searching is free, and you can then contact the fund house to claim the units.

Disclaimer

This is my honest read, not formal financial advice. I'm not your advisor, and before you do anything big, like a large Regular-to-Direct switch, run the tax numbers past a professional. That said, this is exactly how I'd approach it. You know your portfolio better than any app does, so use these tools to see it clearly and decide for yourself.
